![]() You could also surmise that they’re considering making a new entry, but surely if they did make a new Pac-Man platformer it’d be a modern open world game and not something so conceptually limited as this. The simplest explanation for the remake’s existence is that Bandai Namco saw the success of the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro The Dragon remakes and wanted a slice of the same pie (while conveniently ignoring that both those remakes included all three games in their respective trilogies). Although the original plan for the game was to make it an open world title, no doubt inspired by Super Mario 64 and Spyro The Dragon, the final product is a mostly linear, mostly 2D adventure closer in pitch to the original Crash Bandicoot games. When Bandai Namco first announced the remake, it was as if it was the return of a much beloved classic, so we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it was popular at the time, at least somewhere in the world. Initially released for the original PlayStation in 1999 (2000 in Europe) we’ve not known a single person to ever mention it, or its two sequels, in the last 23 years. We promised we’d give up acting surprised at how increasingly more obscure games were getting full-blown remakes, but consider our minds boggled that anyone remembers Pac-Man World, let alone decided to remake it. Yet another PS1 era 3D platformer is given the remake treatment, but does Namco’s Pac-Man World really deserve the attention? Now we wait for the eventual World 2 remake.Pac-Man World Re-Pac – did anyone ask for this? (pic: Bandai Namco) ![]() Overall, if you like the series, or just like platformers, and have $30 lying around, this is a great choice. The game also fixed many of the annoying bosses and glitched. When i got the game on both PS5 and Switch, the memories came back to me. I was ecstatic when this game got revealed in the Partner Nintendo Direct, as PAC-MAN MUSEUM + just came out and I didn't expect a remake of one of my favorite retro platformers. I owned PAC-MAN World Rally as well and would discover World 2 and 3 in my middle school years. I played it so much that they gave me it as a gift. In the room they gave me was a PlayStation with a copy of the Original PAC-MAN World. A few years later, I would go over to my grandparents house on the lake every year. When I was young, I owned the game on the GBA. A few years later, I would go over to my PAC-MAN World Re-PAC made me feel like a kid again. PAC-MAN World Re-PAC made me feel like a kid again. I hope to see more PAC-Man World games in the future, remakes and entirely new. Both of these issues have since been fixed with a patch, so I can now confidently say it’s a 10/10 game. At launch, the game had two issues: much of the soundtrack was heavily compressed and the original PS1 game’s development team was not included in the end credits. Very creative! I’m especially a fan of the funhouse world. This game’s worlds mix up the theming a lot, being pirate ship -> ruins -> space -> funhouse -> factory -> mansion. A lot of linear 3D platformers follow the pattern of grass -> desert -> ice -> water -> caves -> sky -> lava. The PS5 version even uses the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers for throwing dots. The Re-PAC remaster improves on the original in every way. Reminds me a lot of Super Mario 3D World, which is impressive since the original PMW game came out 14 years before SM3DW. The platforming is very well constructed and precise. Reminds me a lot of Super Mario 3D Genuinely one of my favorite games of all time. ![]() Genuinely one of my favorite games of all time. ![]()
